Anthropic Upgrades Claude Voice Mode with Full Model Lineup and App Integration

Anthropic has pushed a significant update to Claude's voice mode, letting users choose between the company's full model lineup — Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku — and connect to third-party applications like Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion. The update moves Claude's voice assistant beyond quick Q&A into genuinely productive territory.

What Changed

Previously, Claude's voice mode was locked to the lightweight Haiku model, optimized for speed but limited for complex reasoning. Under the new system, voice mode picks whichever model you last used in text chat — meaning a user brainstorming in Opus can continue that session with voice, keeping the same reasoning depth. Voice mode uses the fastest version of the selected model by default.

Anthropic says the new capabilities enable longer, more substantive conversations: getting feedback on your communication style, walking through a client pitch, or conducting product market research — all hands-free.

App Integration: The Real Differentiator

The most consequential feature is Claude's ability to reach into other applications. Users can ask Claude to reschedule a meeting in Google Calendar, draft an email in Gmail, or create a document in Notion — all through voice commands. This is a notable gap with OpenAI's ChatGPT voice mode, which according to TechCrunch recently got a conversational upgrade but still cannot use external tools to complete tasks.

Anthropic has also expanded multilingual support to ten languages including English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish — though users must manually specify the language.

The Builders' Angle

For AI builders and teams integrating voice into their workflows, this update signals two things. First, Anthropic is treating voice not as a novelty feature but as a primary interface — the model tiering means voice inherits whatever reasoning capability you've already configured. Second, the app integrations point toward an agentic future where Claude acts as a coordination layer across your tools.

Free-tier users are restricted to Haiku with one connected app, while paid users get the full model range and multiple integrations. The update is available now in beta across all platforms.
