The takeaway

Gemini 3.7 Flash delivers stronger coding and agent performance at half the price of 3.6 Flash, sharpening Google's challenge to OpenAI and Anthropic in the agent economy.

Why it matters for builders

For AI builders, Gemini 3.7 Flash is a price-performance inflection point. Half the input cost of its predecessor, combined with gains on DeepSWE and AutomationBench, means agent pipelines that were borderline on cost can now scale. The Spark integration also previews Google's agent-first strategy, so builders can prototype on the API and ship to production with confidence.

Google Ships Gemini 3.7 Flash, a Cheaper Model for Coding Agents

Google has released Gemini 3.7 Flash, its "most intelligent workhorse model yet for coding and agents," just three weeks after Gemini 3.6 Flash. The new model arrives with an introductory price half that of its predecessor, a clear bid to win over developers scaling production AI agents.

What's new

Gemini 3.7 Flash posts substantial gains over 3.6 Flash across the benchmarks that matter most to builders. On long-horizon software engineering, it scores 65.3% on DeepSWE v1.1 versus 49.0% for 3.6 Flash, and 43.6% on FrontierCode 1.1 Main compared with 34.4%. In web development, it climbs to an Elo of 1588 on Arena.ai's WebDev Arena, up from 1538.

The gains extend beyond code. On GDP.pdf, a benchmark for processing complex documents in finance, law, and biosciences, 3.7 Flash scores 34.0% against 22.0%. On AutomationBench, which measures real-world business workflow completion, it reaches 30.4% versus 17.0%.

Pricing is the headline. Through the end of the year, Gemini 3.7 Flash costs $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens, half the original 3.6 Flash price. Google positions it as a way to "scale production-ready agents cost effectively."

Why it matters

The model now powers Gemini Spark, Google's 24/7 personal AI agent available to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in over 160 countries. Google says the update improves Spark's tool use across Google Workspace apps and its handling of complex, multi-skill workflows.

For developers, 3.7 Flash is available in the Gemini API through Google AI Studio and Android Studio, and via Google Antigravity for agent-first workflows. Enterprises can access it through the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.

Google also says 3.7 Flash ships with updated safeguards against misuse in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear domains as well as cyber offense, following its Frontier Safety framework.

The release sharpens the pricing war among frontier labs. At half the cost of 3.6 Flash with meaningful benchmark gains, 3.7 Flash signals that Google intends to compete on both capability and cost in the agent economy.
