The takeaway

Instinct's $10B valuation shows consumer AI agents are the hottest segment in AI, but privacy concerns and Meta's fast-rising Muse mean the race is far from settled.

Why it matters for builders

For AI builders and automation teams, Instinct is a live case study in what consumer-grade agents demand: durable identity, secure task execution across phone and web, and a working payments rail. Its concierge phone-calling feature and trusted-person network point to where agent orchestration is heading - agents that act on a user's behalf across real-world systems, not just chat.

Instinct Reaches $10B Valuation After $1B Series C for AI Agents

Consumer AI assistant startup Instinct has closed a $1 billion Series C at a $10 billion valuation, barely a month after a prior round valued it at $2.5 billion. The round was led by Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital, and Coatue, according to TechCrunch, marking one of the fastest growth rounds for a startup that only launched its invite-only service in August 2026.

What happened

Instinct belongs to a new class of consumer AI agents that do not just chat, but act: booking travel and restaurant reservations, making purchases, paying bills, canceling subscriptions, and running research on a user's behalf. When asked to perform a task, the agent uses its own phone number and computer to carry it out.

The company has also shipped a "concierge" feature that places phone calls to book appointments at businesses without online booking, plus a "trusted person network" that lets one person's agent coordinate plans with their friends' agents.

Why it matters

The raise reflects the market's enthusiasm for consumer agents, but it also exposes the tensions in the space. Instinct's viral growth has been shadowed by privacy concerns: an early version of its privacy policy drew criticism for overreach and has since been updated. Users are weighing the convenience of delegating tasks against how much personal data they must hand over.

Competition is intensifying too. Meta's assistant Muse has climbed to the top of US app stores with millions of downloads and deep ties into Meta's social products. Instinct, which reaches users over SMS and has no mobile app yet, is racing to keep pace.

Builder impact

For AI builders and automation teams, Instinct is a case study in what consumer-grade agents demand: durable identity, secure task execution across phone and web, and a working payments rail. Founder Noah Shinn described the mission as building "the best personal agent that can handle the deeply personal nuances of everyday life." Instinct has not shared user numbers, but its investors clearly see the signal.
