OpenAI Acquires NextSlide to Add Presentations to ChatGPT

OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a startup specializing in AI-powered presentation creation, folding its team directly into ChatGPT development. The deal, which took place earlier this year but was only publicly confirmed on August 8, adds visual communication tools to OpenAI's expanding productivity suite.

NextSlide founder Ahmed Beshry announced the acquisition on the startup's website and LinkedIn. The company's product transformed prompts, notes, documents, or research into polished, editable presentations. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"The ultimate goal was to make visual communication more accessible and help more people express their ideas clearly," Beshry wrote. "By joining OpenAI, the team will continue pursuing that same mission: building AI products that help people create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work."

Beshry previously co-founded Caper AI, a smart-cart startup acquired by Instacart in 2021, giving him a track record of successful exits in AI-adjacent spaces. In a LinkedIn post, he noted the announcement was coming "a few months late" since the deal closed earlier this year.

The acquisition signals OpenAI's ambition to evolve ChatGPT beyond text into a full multimodal productivity platform.
